Turneffe Atoll is one of three outlying atolls of Belize. Atolls are islands formed by billions of polyps that create the hard exoskeleton that we recognize as corals. As the sea level has risen and fallen in correspondence to past global climate change the polyps have created Turneffe as we see it today. The North Side of Turneffe offers numerous wall dives with exceptional visibility and coral formations.
The atoll itself remains undeveloped and protected by Belizean law. During the dives, divers experience calm seas and a steady boat as the atoll protects the sites from weather. Because of its isolation from development, the coral life here remains some of the healthiest in the Caribbean. Though we have had some complaints that, “there is just too much coral … its like diving through forest!”
