Belize Diving Services – Great Blue Hole

The famed Great Blue Hole is a large underwater sinkhole, over 300 meters (984 feet) across and 125 meters (410 feet) deep. It was formed during the last glacial period when the roof of a large limestone cave collapsed as sea levels rose. Jacques-Yves Cousteau explored and charted the site in the early 1970s, confirming its origin and declaring it one of the top 10 diving excursions in the world. Cousteau explored the depths in a submarine; we like doing it with rebreathers.

Belize Diving Services leads several technical dives to the Great Blue Hole annually, but we don’t do recreational dives to the site. We are happy to recommend a shop that does and help you book a dive.
