Wednesday (Lighthouse Atoll)
Monday & Friday (Blue Hole Days)
Lighthouse – Easy
Great Blue Hole – Expert
Fifty miles from Caye Caulker, Lighthouse Atoll is the most remote of Belize’s three outer atolls. But your 6:00 am departure and 2-hour boat ride are rewarded by what some say is the best diving in the Caribbean, including the marquee dive to the Great Blue Hole.
Belize Diving Services offers two distinctly different experiences on this atoll. Wednesday is a moderate dive day with a daily maximum depth of about 80 ft. You will explore the atoll’s diverse ecosystem, characterized by many apex predators and spectacular coral formations. We usually go to the more pristine and less crowded dive sites such as Eagle Ray Wall and Reef Shark Pass. Sponges and other soft coral at these sites are huge.
Monday and Friday’s trips are the more traditional Great Blue Hole run. Experienced divers—25 dives or more (please see our Safety Commitment)—venture to the limits of recreational scuba diving to see Costeau’s Crooked Stalactites at 130ft/40M. For those not qualified for the depth or who simply want a longer dive profile, we also offer a 80ft/24M dive to explore this remarkable sink and, hopefully, see some sharks. Other dives for this fabulous day include Half Moon Caye Wall and Aquarium. These are exceptional dive sites where large and small marine life abounds, including rays, grouper, crabs, tilefish, turtles, and eel. Weather and time permitting, we may also visit the bird sanctuary observation deck on Half Moon Caye.
With all-day tours, a hot breakfast and hearty box lunch are included, with vegetarian options.
